Here are some updates in regards to Red Cross relief efforts following the recent Midwest Tornadoes and Typhoon Haiyan in the Phillippines.
In the Midwest, officials report more than 1,000 homes sustained damage and tens of
thousands more are still without power. More than 100 people stayed in
25 Red Cross shelters Monday night in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and
Ohio. More than 20 Red Cross emergency
vehicles are circulating through affected communities. In
Illinois and Indiana, more than 500 Red Cross workers have served more
than 32,000 meals and snacks, handed out more than 1,600 relief items
and provided more than 700 health and mental health services.
To assist with relief efforts in the Philippines, the American Red Cross today committed
an additional $5 million to support the global Red Cross response to
Typhoon Haiyan, bringing the total to $11 million to
date. The
$11 million in funding will be used to purchase and distribute relief
items such as food, blankets, hygiene kits, and mosquito nets.
Those who want to help can go to www.redcross.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS to donate to Red Cross disaster relief. People can also mail in a donation to their local Red Cross chapter. I know many of you are coordinating fundraisers with your Red Cross clubs. Any questions in regards to fundraising can be directed to Megan Pierce at 714-481-5397 or Megan.Pierce2@redcross.org.
Thanks!
